Shortly After Shortly Before The End2 August 2010
Jeeze louise. Ok, where to begin? Norway is currently in the process of recovering from a phenomenon we call “summer vacation,” which has an almost masterful ability to void any and all cognitive activity for approximately four weeks. Try as I might I haven’t managed to make myself immune to this. Guess this means I’ve finally integrated.
Shortly Before The End came to a close with limited drama, save for a break-in a week after the show opened. A few of the paintings were removed from the wall but not stolen, presumably after the robbers realized they weren’t yet worth anything on the black market, but it also seems the thieves were careful not to damage the corners when they left them by the back door. Thanks, guys. They did manage to make off with some video projection equipment and my old laptop, but since I had been in the market for a new one, they actually did me a favor.
The most unfortunate consequence of this break in was that it left the owners massively paranoid. So much so that it seriously toyed with the gallery’s opening hours, plus required us to take extra special borderline neurotic precautions by taking the paintings off the wall and locking them in storage. Every. Night. Look no further for the definition of pain in the ass.
But all in all, the thing went well.
So anyway, I want to extend a profound and heartfelt thanks to everyone who came out for their time, kind words, support, and contributions to my savings account. Meanwhile I look forward to getting back to painting with oils. Heavens, did I miss the smell.
